What a fantastic May it was for birding in Saco! Saco Bay Trails was thrilled to partner with naturalist Josh Fecteau for a series of highly successful bird and phenology walks at the beautiful Laurel Hill Cemetery.
From seasoned birders to curious newcomers, we welcomed a grand total of 67 participants across six walks throughout May. It was wonderful to see a mix of familiar faces returning and new enthusiasts joining our community.
The weather truly cooperated, providing perfect conditions for spotting our feathered friends. And the birds? They delivered! With Josh's infectious enthusiasm and deep knowledge, every walk was an engaging and educational experience. We've received nothing but tremendous compliments from participants, highlighting the joy and insight gained from these unique excursions.
These walks offered more than just bird identification; they were also a chance to observe phenology—the study of cyclical and seasonal natural phenomena—connecting the birds' activities to the broader changes in the natural world around us.
A huge thank you to Josh and Jenny Fecteau for leading such memorable sessions, and to all of you who joined us! Your participation makes these events a resounding success. Stay tuned for future opportunities to explore the natural wonders of Saco Bay Trails!
