Heath trail looking good
I just took a quick swing up through the Heath to check it out today. I walked in as far as the benches on the boardwalk before the cold got me and I turned around. All the boards look good, and there don't appear to be any new holes. The park itself is quite clean with no visible debris/trash. I restocked the kiosk with guides. They seem to be going at a healthy rate of a couple dozen a month, and people in general seem to be treating them with respect.

There is a large tree that's come crashing down just 30 or 40 feet into the trail from the parking lot. It's actually gotten wedged between two close-set trees and is lodged mostly horizontally, literally only a few feet overhead right across the trail. It appears to be wedged pretty solidly for the moment -- which is good as you have to walk under it in order to continue the trail! I sense a chainsaw in its near future.

Otherwise the trail is clear and clean. The freeze has actually made the walking much easier now that the mud no longer tries to pull your boots off. And the fresh trailblazing came in very handy. It's amazing how just a dusting of snow can hide signs of the trail on the ground. The heath itself is quite a sight, especially in the low late-December afternoon sun. And the parking lot & driveway are a joy now, compared to the potholes of a few months ago.

The next cleanup is this coming Sunday, Dec. 14, at 10:00AM. I believe this will involve removing the waste materials from boardwalk repairs, as well as moving in some new planks to various staging areas throughout the Heath.
