Just took a lovely walk in the Heath late this morning.
Went all the way to the end, around the loop in the red pine forest, spent some time at the cedars looking out on the heath (marker #7 in the guide). Perfect day for being there. Stark beauty in all the shades of brown & rust -- and the carpet of leaves on the initial trail was lovely. (The trailblazing has held up well, and the trail is easy to follow, even with the path obscured by leaves.) Hard to believe that parts of it are still muddy though -- the legacy of early summer lives on. The mood of the heath was very serene today, even with a good breeze. And the waves of cottongrass are still a sight. I highly recommend the loop through the red pines at the far end; it's just such a contrast from the swampy mixed forest near the road.
