Sweetser Link moved
This past weekend (Nov. 21) a group of volunteers moved the route of the Sweetser Link trail from the Philips Spring stream bed to a path on the ridge that overlooks the valley.

This new path will be much drier and easier to maintain than the old route, which was plagued by water problems.

Hikers can still gain access to the trail from the Mobil gasoline station parking lot. Follow the Old Camp Loop trail halfway around and descend the hill to Philips Spring stream. After crossing the stream, hikers turn right up a short ravine to the new trail (instead of turning left and following the stream).

The new trail leads hikers along the edge of the ravine and eventually into the wooded picnic area that overlooks the beaver pond.

The new trail is still in the rough stages, but is passable by hikers who should follow the orange tape markers. Our thanks to the folks at Sweetser who gave us permission for the route change.
