Walther Pond Trail

Summer, 2005

This pond will be a focal point for the Walther Pond Trail. Below, a map showing the relationship between the Walther Pond Trail and the Ferry Landing Trail.

This summer we'll be focusing on completing the Walther Pond Trail, a short spur adjacent to our Ferry Landing Trail.

The 2.27 acre parcel on which the trail will run was donated to Saco Bay Trails in 2002 by Sandra Greenier Chipman and Tamera Devine in memory of their grandmother, Ina Walther of Saco.

Our plan is to build a short trail that will feature a resting bench overlooking the pond, which is the dominant feature of the parcel. The land adjoins an eight-acre parcel donated to Saco Bay Trails by Diane Doyle on which the Ferry Landing Trail runs.

Sandra and Tamera recall their grandmother loved to watch birds from the window of her nearby home. She kept a pair of field glasses and a book nearby to identify the many species that call the wetland home.

"We think she would have liked to see the pond cleaned up and a trail system put in so others could enjoy the wildlife and beauty of the area," Sandra Greenier said.
