Industrial Park/Old Sawmill Trails

Fall, 2002

In the spring of 2002 a group of AmeriCorps volunteers, led by Saco Bay Trails trailmaster Jim Burnell began clearing a series of trails in the Saco Industrial Park. The combined length of the trails will be about 2.5 miles. The network will run from near the park's entrance on Route 1 (just past the KOA campground) to the Flag Pond Road, adjacent the entrance of the Sylvan Trail.

By the end of their stint, the team had cleared the majority of the trail corridor and begun building several of the bridges and boardwalks that will mark the trail.

In the coming season we hope to complete the first section of the network, named the Industrial Park Trail. We will need to build about 60 feet of boardwalk and five bridges, as well as finishing the trailbed.

The second section of the network, the Old Sawmill Trail, is more ambitious. This will run from Willey Road in the Industrial Park to Flag Pond road, about 1.5 miles. Completing this will require more than 400 feet of boardwalk and two bridges, one of which will span Cascade Brook.
