East Point Sanctuary at Biddeford Pool

View East Point Sanctury in a larger map

TRAIL BASICS
Length (roundtrip): 0.9 mile.
Directions to trailhead: From downtown Saco, take Main St south and cross the Saco River. At the first traffic light, take the second left (Hill St) and climb to the traffic light at Pool St. Turn left and continue on Pool (Rt 9 and 208) for 5.3 miles. Go left on Rt 208 for 0.6 mile. At the stop sign go left onto Mile Stretch Road and then Lester B. Orcutt Blvd. for another 1.7 miles. The gates to East Point Sanctuary are on your left just before you reach the ocean. Pull off and park on the shoulder.
Estimated walking time: 30 minutes.

At the very tip end of Biddeford Pool, Maine Audubon Society maintains a perimeter trail on its East Point Sanctuary. On-street parking is available for up to a half-dozen cars. The trail is short but spectacular. Walkers should be watchful for dangerously eroded embankments, which are being washed into the sea. A less obvious hazard is poison ivy, which flourishes on the point. Dogs are not permitted in the sanctuary. Please respect the rights of adjoining landowners and the Audubon Society's posted rules.
