Trails at Rachel Carson NWS

Atlantic Way
PRINT THIS MAP
Rachel Carson National Wildlife Sanctuary protects more than 500 acres on the Goosefare Brook. Atlantic Way, which passes through the center of the sanctuary, was once used as a logging road. One or two cars may be parked on the Seaside Avenue end of the trail. Walkers easily enter the sanctuary from Wildwood Drive where there is a larger parking area. Atlantic Way & Plymouth Spur Trails in Rachel Carson National Wildlife Sanctuary

In the summer of 1997, thanks to a grant from Maine Dept. of Conservation received by Saco Parks and Recreation, Atlantic Way was cleared and a bridge was constructed. Saco DPW provides access control and culvert maintenance.

Plymouth & Vines Road Spur Trails

Before this land was donated to Rachel Carson National Wildlife Sanctuary, these two trails were cut to connect Plymouth Plantation to Atlantic Way by developers Mark McCallum & James Prendergast.

Saco Bay Trails dreams of extending this trail network to include access to a former logging loop road which was once connected to Atlantic Way. This loop lies across Wildwood Drive from the current Atlantic Way Trail. As developers expand housing in this area, we hope to negotiate trail easements (shown on the map) to the old logging road to enhance the quality of life for the new homeowners and for all who enjoy a quiet woodland walk.
